Researchers have found that sleep deprivation can lead to weight gain. Sleep-deprived individuals consume more calories, while they burn the same quantity of calories as those who get normal hours of sleep. These excess calories add up and add flab gradually.

Another study indicates that too much sleep can also result in weight gain. This study also suggests that sleeping for less than five hours or for more than nine hours a night can cause weight gain. In yet another study, sleep-deprived men ate more high-calorie foods and thus increased their daily calorie intake.
