Gonorrhea Symptoms in Men

Gonorrhea is a bacterial infection. It is caused by Neisseria gonorrhea bacterium. This is a sexually transmitted disease. The symptoms of Gonorrhea infection vary between men and women because they afflict reproductive tracts. It can even affect urethra, anus, eyes, throat and mouth in both women and men. Gonorrhea symptoms in men are noticed more often compared to women.

Gonorrhea Symptoms in Men:
During the incubation period i.e., initial 5 – 30 days, one may not notice any symptoms, while some men not notice any symptoms. Following are the gonorrhea symptoms in men:

  • Painful, soreness or bleeding bowel movements
  • Anal itching
  • Rectal infection that includes discharge
  • Painful or swollen testicles
  • Yellow, green or white discharge oozes out from penis
  • Burning sensation during urination

In some cases, one may not notice any symptoms. Throat infections can trigger sore throat. However, other signs are seen rarely.

Diagnosis for Gonorrhea:
Several laboratory tests can be performed for diagnosing Gonorrhea. A sample may be obtained from infected parts like throat, urethra or rectum and can be sent for analysis. If it is present in urethra or cervix, the condition can be diagnosed by testing the urine sample. Gram stain is one of the laboratory tests. This lets the doctor to the bacterium under the microscope.

Treatment for Gonorrhea:
Several antibiotics can be prescribed by the physician for treating Gonorrhea. It is difficult to treat this condition successfully because of the raise of drug resistant strains of the condition. Those suffering with Gonorrhea can also have Chlamydia. Doctors prescribe antibiotics for both the infections. One must use all the medicines prescribed by the physician as the permanent damage caused by infection cannot be repaired. The condition can recur if one will have sexual contact with the infected person. You must consult the doctor immediately if the symptoms recur even after treatment.
