These infections can spread to other people by sneezing, coughing, or direct contact with an infected person. Generally people experience the symptoms of upper respiratory infections after 2 – 3 days from the ingestion of bacteria in your body. Increase fluids or liquids intake as it is the essential aspect of treatment for these infections. Irritation in nose and throat may be avoided easily by staying away from contaminated and polluted areas. Also one must follow basic healthy living rules like exercising regularly and washing hands before eating. These are the best prevention methods of this infection. Proper functioning of immune system prevents infections. Certain decongestants like pseudo ephedrine and antihistamines like loratadine are best for treating upper respiratory infections.

Antibiotics are not effective on viruses that are responsible for infections and sometimes they can cause serious side effects. Usage of heated or humidified air and ibuprofen or paracetamol for fever may be helpful. Most people believe that vitamin C is good for treating these infections, but according to researchers, large doses of the same can cause side effects.
