Tongue is an important sensory organ and has many muscles. Tongue’s upper surface is covered with taste buds and papillae. There are several factors which trigger changes in appearance and functioning of tongue. Also, tongue ulcers are called aphthous ulcer. White colored patches or lesions appear on the tongue. Generally, these are painless. But, as the ulcers worsen, they turn to red blood color. Sometimes, they may bleed and cause tongue damage. These ulcers may cause burning sensation in certain areas of tongue. One can also experience irritation and soreness while talking or eating.
