Bacterial Infection in Women
There are a few bacteria which are natural inhabitants of vagina. They produce an acid which makes the vaginal surroundings to have acidic pH. It is a deterrent for several pathogenic fungi and bacteria that infect vagina. Vaginal infection is the most common bacterial infection in women. Several bacterial infections afflict women. Vaginal inflammation is the most common infection. This is caused by an imbalance in general bacterial flora of vagina. Bacterial infection is very common because it affects one in every three women at some point of their life. This is an unpleasant condition which must be treated medically.
Causes of Bacterial Infections in Women:
Weak immune system or poor hygiene is the main causes of bacterial infection in women. If you do not practice good hygiene and follow a healthy lifestyle, it can result in several bacterial infections. Women who eat plenty of pastries and candies can disturb their vagina’s pH. If the pH of vagina decreases, other organisms flourish resulting in infections. Also usage of vaginal deodorants, douches, etc may reduce acidity and can increase alkalinity of vagina. This is so because the normal bacteria decrease by using these products.
Wearing nylon underwear and pants and tight undergarments reduces air circulation to pelvic area. This makes anaerobic bacteria to grow resulting in infections. Usage of birth control pills, antibiotics, etc can increase the chances of infections. Also, smoking increases the chances of developing infections. Women with weak immune system may suffer from frequent bacterial infections.
Bacterial Infection in Women Symptoms:
There are several bacterial infection symptoms in women. Following are some of them:
- Abdominal pain
- Bleeding from the vagina after sex
- Pain during sex
- Fish odor or foul smelling of discharge from the vagina
- Creamy or watery, yellowish, grayish or green discharge from vagina
- Inner lining of vagina and vulva may swell
- Raw appearance of vaginal lining
- Redness in inner parts of the vaginal lips
- Pain in vagina
- Irritation of vaginal area
- Burning sensation in the vagina
- Itching in the vagina
Treatment for Bacterial Infections in Women:
Several antibiotics are available for treating bacterial infections. They include trovafloxin, ciprofloxacin, norfloxacin, ampicillin, nitrofurantoin, amoxicillin, sulfamethoxazole, trimethoprim, etc. Clindamycin or metronidazole is generally used for treating bacterial vaginosis. You must consult the health care provider for antibiotics.
