Find Out What Causes Pain in Legs

Painful legs can ensure the immediate stop of your life, since they pretty much support you and are in charge of getting you from one place to another. If they are indisposed but not really redundant, then you are likely to be in some amount of discomfort. What causes pain in legs can either be local, meaning that the cause of the pain comes from the problem with the leg itself, or it can come from another part of the body such as the back, providing a fine example for referred pain.

Now it is time for you to find out what causes pain in legs so as not to panic when the pain starts. This however is not a way to diagnose yourself but rather an offering of information that will allow you to look at the situation objectively.

  • During the later stages of pregnancy, most women will suffer leg pains and cramps as the pressure on the legs is increased and what was initially for one is now supporting more weight. What causes the leg pain during pregnancy is not certain, but one thing is for sure, if you are pregnant then your are likely to get pain spasms in the legs.
  • Sciatica, this carries a bunch of various diseases that cause pain in the leg. They are referred to as sciatica because the pain radiates along the sciatica nerve found from the lower back through each leg and finally down to the foot. Some of the illnesses include lumbar spinal stenosis, lumbar herniated disc, and lumbar degenerative disc disease.
  • Trauma to the leg such as fractures, sprains, strains, shin splits, bleeding, or compartment syndrome is likely to cause some amount of pain. Injury to the tissue, muscle surrounding the bone or the actual bone of the leg itself will surely result into pain and if you fall or trip then there will be pain in your leg/s.
  • Diabetes with its various complications such as a reduced immune system, low blood sugar, cause blood vessels and nerves to function at less than optimum. These result into the body’s inability to restore itself and the legs being at the bottom of the body supporting all its weight are likely to suffer the most injuries. This makes diabetic people more prone to leg pains.
  • Other causes include skin problems affecting the skin covering the legs, muscle cramps and pain due to overuse of the legs, joint pain and systematic illnesses such as Lyme disease or inflammatory bowel disease.

  • n children, leg pain can come as a result of a joint infection, rheumatic fever, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, or damage to growth plate. In children, leg pain should be taken seriously since they usually take longer to admit that something is wrong and may ignore their pain till it reaches critical level. Unlike adults, when children finally admit to having a pain, it may have been there for up to a week and if it was not serious, then it should have gone away by now, so have it checked.

As we have said before and will say again, pain is not the problem but rather a symptom of a problem and to determine what is wrong with you, one needs to see a physician and rule out anything serious. You do not want to lose your mobility simply because you were too busy or proud to visit a doctor. For a body part that supports you that much, the least you can do is appreciate its purpose and have the pain looked at by a professional physician.
