Radioactive Beef Scare Spreads Across Japan
The nuclear disaster in Japan has triggered a scare about radioactive beef. Many areas in Japan have reported about contaminated meat.
Japan’s media reports that more than 100 cattle had consumed straw contaminated with radioactive caesium. Meat from these cattle have been distributed across Japan. In some areas, this dangerous meat has already been consumed.
In Japan’s capital Tokyo, a few supermarkets have posted signs warning about this hazardous beef. The Japanese government is expected to impose a ban on beef shipments from Fukushima prefecture, which has been affected by radiation from a nuclear plant.
Other areas besides Fukushima may also be covered soon. The government has reassured the public that eating normal quantities of even tainted beef is not harmful to health.
