High Doses Of Vitamin D Safe For Pregnant Women – Study Reveals!

Pregnant WomanAll you expecting mothers with those beautiful baby bumps worrying about the dosage of vitamin D supplements during your pregnancy can heave a sigh of relief now!

The controversy over the levels of intake of this vitamin during pregnancy has been a hot topic for quite sometime now in the scientific fraternity.

A recent study conducted by a team of researchers led by Dr. Bruce Hollis from the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston has found that a high level of vitamin D supplementation in pregnant women is not harmful either to the mother or to the newborn. On the contrary it helped in raising the circulating levels of this vitamin in the blood.

The study involved monitoring of 350 pregnant women, all of whom were from different socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds. Moreover, all these women were between 12 and 16 weeks into gestation.

They were randomly divided into 3 groups. The very first group received the vitamin D dosage of 400 IU per day. The second and third groups received 2000 IU and 4000 IU per day respectively.

Surprisingly, it was found that the 3rd group that received 4000 IU per day of vitamin D supplements was found to have the optimal level of circulating vitamin D in their blood.
