Good Sleep is Good for Health
New research reveals that sound sleep at night can improve quality of life and prevent depression. The study reveals that people who sleep between six to nine hours each night enjoy better quality of life and are less likely to suffer depression, compared to those who do not sleep as much. However, sleeping for greater than nine hours at night should be avoided, the researchers say.
In the study, more than 10,000 patients with an average age of 52 were monitored for two years. The researchers analyzed their sleep duration, depression levels and quality of life. The findings reveal the importance of getting enough sleep at night, say the researchers.
Sleep requirements vary for each person. But an optimum level of about six to eight hours of sleeping at night is necessary to feel rested and alert during the next day.
