Chain Smoking Can Cause Advanced Kidney Cancer
A new research study reveals that heavy smoking can cause advanced kidney cancer. Researchers at the Duke University Medical Center analyzed 845 kidney cancer patients who had undergone surgery from 2000 to 2009. They discovered that smokers were more likely to get advanced cancer compared to nonsmokers.
Heavy smoking was linked to advanced kidney cancer. But, quitting smoking was found to reduce the risk of getting advanced disease, the investigators said. These findings were revealed recently at the annual meeting of the American Urological Association held at Washington, D.C.
The researchers also said that smoking increased the risk of making the cancer more aggressive, while quitting smoking lowered the risk.
