The Enormous Costs of Headaches
The World Health Organization (WHO) has revealed that 50% of adults all over the world suffer from tension headaches and migraines, which have enormous societal and economic costs. Yet, knowledge is scarce about headaches and they often go undiagnosed and untreated.
Lost productivity due to headaches has tremendous financial costs. In the European Union (EU), migraines result in the loss of 190 million work days each year.
Health experts say migraines debilitate many people and affect their work. Migraine impacts about one in 12 men and one in six women. It is the costliest brain disorder socially in the U.S. and the European Union. Headaches cost an annual total of 155 billion euros or $229 billion in the EU.
