Fight Obesity, Diabetes and Heart Attack with Tangerines!
A team of researchers from the University of Western Ontario has discovered that conditions such as type 2 diabetes, obesity, atherosclerosis and heart attack can be prevented by eating tangerines, as they have a flavonoid named Nobiletin that can protect the body against these medical conditions.
The research was conducted on 2 groups of mice modeled with metabolic syndrome (group of risk factors that increase the risk of type 2 diabetes, stroke and coronary artery disease).
The first group was given the so called “western diet” high in simple sugars and fats. Over a period of time these mice not only became obese but also developed symptoms associated with metabolic syndrome such as high blood glucose levels, increased levels of cholesterol etc.
The second group was also given the same diet after adding Nobiletin to it. None of the symptoms mentioned above were seen in these mice. Also, the weight gain was normal.
This study brings a new hope with it indicating the benefits of eating natural foods.
