Uterine Fibroid Embolization Can Control Lower Urinary Tract Problems
The researchers, at the 36th Annual Scientific Meeting of the Society of Interventional Radiology, confirmed that the uterine fibroid embolization (UFE) controls the lower urinary tract problems in many women. UFE is an interventional radiology treatment which is used to treat the common growths developing in the uterine wall. UFE is an excellent choice of treatment for uterine fibroids. Besides, it is believed to improve the related urinary tract problems.
Uterine fibroids are noncancerous growths in the uterus. They might cause heavy and prolonged menstrual bleeding, pelvic pain, painful intercourse, infertility etc. About 20% -40% women above 35 years of age have fibroids in the uterus. These fibroids can cause many unpleasant and life-disrupting symptoms in women. UFE can significantly improve the quality of life for such women. 46 women with lower urinary tract symptoms were studied for the research. They all underwent UFE. After three months, these participants reported improvement in the urinary symptoms.
It has already been proven that UFE is an effective and safe option for fibroid treatment when compared to hysterectomy. It offers less pain, less risk and shorter recovery period. UFE blocks the blood vessels which feed the fibroids. This leads to the death of the tumor and the symptoms subside. The latest research also proves that the minimal invasive uterine fibroid embolization can control many urinary tract problems. Women suffering from fibroids should weigh all the options and choose the best one which is available.
