Be Careful!!! PFC Exposure Might Trigger Early Menopause!!!
A study which will be published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism (JCEM) of The Endocrine Society made a startling observation. The researchers from the West Virginia University School of Medicine, Morgantown, found the association between the high level of PFCs, perfluorocarbons, in the body and increased chances of experiencing early menopause in women in the age group 42-64. Women in the mentioned age group with higher levels of PFCs also reported of having significantly lower estrogen concentrations than women with lower levels of PFCs. Perfluorocarbons are man-made chemicals which are used in the various household products like clothing, food containers, paints carpets etc.
In the study, 25,957 women in the age group 18-65 were examined. The researchers studied their menopausal status and measured the levels of PFCs and also estradiol. It was observed that there is an association between exposure to PFC, estradiol decrease and early onset of menopause in women above 42.
According to Sarah Knox, lead author of the study, this is the biggest ever study conducted on the harmful effects of perfluorocarbons on women. PFCs are also associated with other health issues like increased risk of cardiovascular diseases and immune system impairment.
