Piles Pain


Piles is also known as hemorrhoids. When piles strikes, the anal veins become swollen and start to bleed. Piles can either be internal or external. In internal piles, the inside part of the anus is affected and starts bleeding. External piles can be viewed outside the anus. It is painful but there is not much bleeding. Usually, patients suffer from a combination of both internal and external piles. The best way to treat piles pain is to address the root cause to solve the problem.

Symptoms of Piles
Chronic constipation is a major symptom of piles. Patients find that evacuating the bowels becomes a tough task as the stools become big and hard. So, they have to exert a lot of force to pressure to push the stool outside. This strain affects the anal veins, causing piles.

Blood may be seen when stools are passed. The blood can stain the stools and can be seen in the toilet bowl. Bleeding can occur during and after passing stools.

Causes of Piles
A bad diet lacking in fiber and sedentary lifestyle are the common causes of piles.

Consuming an unhealthy diet along with aerated drinks, sodas and junk food can all lead to constipation, that can cause piles. People who drink a lot of coffee and tea, and do not eat the required portions of vegetables and fruits can become victims of piles.

Sedentary Lifestyle
Not indulging in exercise and physical activity can prevent regular bowel movement. Gradually, this deteriorates into piles.

Too much physical and mental stress can also affect regular bowel movements, causing constipation and piles.

Bad Bowel Habits
Straining too hard on the toilet seat, not evacuating bowels fully and postponing bowel movement can also lead to constipation and piles.

In women, the period during pregnancy and childbirth can be affected by piles.

Prevention of Piles

  • You should practice good bowel habits at all times.
  • Try to go to the toilet regularly, preferably at the same time every day.
  • Your diet should include plenty of fiber. Fiber-rich foods include whole-grain breads and bagels, bran flakes, whole-wheat pastas, fruits such as pears, oranges and apples and vegetables such as green peas, spinach and broccoli.
  • You should indulge in physical activities and exercise regularly.
  • Drink lots of natural juices and water every day.
