Being too Clean can be Hazardous to Health
A recent study has revealed that young adults are more likely to suffer from allergies if they use too much of antibacterial soaps that contain triclosan. According to the research of “Michigan School of Public Health University”, overexposure to high Bisphenol A (BPA) levels can also weaken the immune system.
Bisphenol A is widely found in many plastics, mostly in plastic food containers, while Triclosan is extensively used in toothpaste, antibacterial soaps, medical devices, diaper bags and pens. And, these both are ECDs – endocrine disrupting compounds which can affect health by acting or mimicking on human hormones according to the researchers.
Nutrition Examination and National Health Survey using the data from 2003 -2006, the researchers compared urinary triclosan and Bisphenol A levels with levels of anti-bodies and with diagnosis of allergies to the pathogen cytomegalovirus, and both recognized signs of weakened immune system in a sample of children over the age of 6 and adults.
Researchers have also proved that people aged 18 and below with high levels of triclosan are more likely to suffer from hay fever and allergies.
