Cayenne Pepper Gargle
Take some cayenne pepper and mix in hot water. Gargle with this solution frequently. Cayenne pepper can cause a burning sensation on the tongue and lips. Therefore, use yogurt or milk to alleviate the burning sensation.

Chili Pepper for Sore Throat Relief
Spices such as white pepper, hot paprika and chili peppers host a substance called capsaicin, which has the ability to dull pain. Ginger tea can also provide effective relief for sore throat. Simmer some ginger powder or root in water for a few minutes. Strain the liquid and add lemon juice. Gargle with this solution every half an hour.

Acidic Gargle
If hot stuff is not to your liking, you can use acidic substances like vinegar or lemon. These can kill germs, so they are great for sore throat relief. Pickle juice or apple cider vinegar are great remedies. Add some apple cider vinegar to hot water and gargle with this solution. Or, you can warm some pickle juice and sip and gargle with it.

Add potassium carbonate or sodium bicarbonate to warm water. Gargle with this solution every half an hour. Gargling with salt water is an age-old remedy. Add crushed garlic or cayenne pepper for heightened effect. Saline water is antiseptic, reduces swelling and clears phlegm.

Diet Tips for Sore Throat Relief
Avoid refined wheat foods, sugar and milk products as these can lead to mucus formation. Drink plenty of fresh pineapple juice, preferably hot. Gargle the pineapple juice, before your swallow it. Drink a lot of citrus juices mixed with water. Ensure you also drink plenty of plain water.
