- Enlist your important things – Evaluate what is important to you. Make a list of the things which you value the most. Think about the 4-5 most important things which you want to do in your life. These priorities simplify your life.
- Evaluate your commitments – Analyze where are you going in your life. This includes everything form work to home to other projects. Prioritize and evaluate which of these things hold importance in your life and give you real value. It is essential to identify things which you love.
- Evaluate your time – Analyze how you spend your day. What are the things that you do from the moment you wake up to the moment you go to sleep? Eliminate the unnecessary things and focus on what’s more important.
- Do one thing at a time – This rule will be familiar to long-time followers of Zen habits. The basic step is to keep it simple: single-task, avoid multi-tasking. As a Zen proverb elaborates, “When walking, walk. When eating, eat.”
- Do it at a slow pace – You may do one task at a point of time, but don’t rush the task. Take your own time. Make your actions deliberate, not random and rushed. This takes a lot of practice, but it helps you to focus completely on the task.
- Learn to say no – For those who want to simplify their lives, this is one of the key habits. You tend to take on too much if you can’t say no at certain times.
