Symptoms of Papillomatosis

Symptoms of papillomatosis develop when there is abnormal growth of cells on the surface of the skin. These growths can later become tumors of either benign (non-cancerous) or malignant (cancerous) types. These tumors are known as papillomas. This article tries to get further information on the signs of this ailment.

Depending upon the types of this cancer, symptoms of papillomatosis can be categorized into two types. They are:

Laryngeal Papillomatosis:

  • Breathing difficulty
  • Difficulty in swallowing technically known as Dysphagia
  • Hoarseness
  • Rapid breathing
  • Chronic coughing
  • Respiratory obstruction
  • Change in voice

Recurrent Repiratory Papillomatosis:

  • Hoarseness
  • Difficulty in breathing
  • Change in voice

  • It is found that the papillomavirus which produces skin warts is associated with development of benign type tumor.
  • Mostly the tumors which develop in the mouth and pharynx eventually become malignant or cancerous.
  • 4 out of every 1000 adults in the United States develop these cancerous tumors.
  • People belonging to the age-group of 30-50 years are at high risk of developing these cancerous tumor though it can affect people from other age group too.
  • Different strains of the papillomavirus are responsible for developing different types of these tumors.
  • The biggest challenge in the diagnosis of these tumors is that they mmimic signs of other cancer types as well.
  • Early diagnosis increases the chances of diagnosis and treament can be commenced accordingly.
  • Awareness of the signs of these cancer tumors can prove to be beneficial in the diagnosis of the cancer.
  • Recurrence of the disease cannot be ruled out, though it is rare.
