Hemophilia – Treatment and Home Remedies for Hemophilia
Hemophilia is a rare bleeding disorder in which the blood doesn’t clot normally. A person with hemophilia may bleed spontaneously immediately after an injury or any surgery. The person may also experience bleeding in the elbows, ankles and knees. Bleeding, thus, destroys the tissues and organs, leading to serious consequences. Most of the affected people can lead normal lives. The treatment and home remedies for hemophilia are discussed below.
Hemophilia treatment depends on the type of clotting factor deficiency and the severity of the condition.
Moderate to severe hemophilia A or hemophilia B – Treatment to these hemophilic conditions include infusion of deficient clotting factors. The clotting factors are extracted from genetically engineered recombinant products or from donated human blood. Repeated infusions are given if there is severe internal bleeding.
Mild hemophilia A – Treatment includes intravenous injection of a hormone called desmopressin. This hormone stimulates the release of clotting factors to stop the bleeding. Desmopressin can also be given as a nasal injection.
Hemophilia C – Treatment includes plasmic infusions. They help to stop bleeding.
Internal bleeding can cause damage to joints. In such cases, physical therapy is the best treatment method. The therapy helps to preserve the joints mobility and prevents the joints deformity.
In severe cases, artificial joint replacement is performed. This is done if there is severe internal bleeding that causes destruction of joints.
Home Remedies for Hemophilia
Following healthy lifestyle and home remedies help to get rid of hemophilia. These measures help in avoiding bleeding and also protects the joints from destruction.
- Avoid certain medications – Some medications can lead to serious effects such as prevent blood from clotting and aggravate bleeding. One should avoid taking such medications like anti-inflammatory drugs, nonsteroidal drugs and blood thinning medications. Also herbal supplements should be avoided as they cause bleeding in case of hemophilia.
