Migraine, Causes and Symptoms

Migraine is a severe pain that occurs in one side of the brain.A person may get affected with other stressful symptoms and the pain experienced can be from moderate to severe headaches.The pain can last up to 2-3 days.A person suffering from migraine may experience vomiting and headache.The patient may become very sensitive to light and noise. For a person with this condition may develop a strong sense of smell to light.Therefore migraine is classified into two categories as common migraine and migraine with an aura.

Causes of Migraine

The exact cause of migraine is still not known.According to some experts it is believed that when there is a decrease in the level of a chemical known as serotonin in the brain,the blood vessels swell, leading to a severe throbbing pain in the head.Other than this factor there are other reasons that can be responsible for migraine to occur. Factors may include chemical,hormonal,diet,environment and behavioral nature.some people if they are exposed to certain conditions,they may suffer from migraine.

Migraine can also be caused due to the odor of perfume, sleeping patterns,dehydration,physical and emotional stress,excess of caffeine and alcohol consumption.Other than these factors a person may also develop migraine after eating certain foods that contain tyramine.Foods that contain tyramine are smoked fish,red wine,chicken liver,cheese and figs. Changes in the weather like humidity,air pressure and warm wind may cause migraine.

Symptoms of Migraine

The most common symptoms of migraine are craving for certain type of foods and mood swings.When a person is suffering from migraine the patient prefers to stay in a quiet and a dark room.This is normal as the person becomes sensitive to noise and light.
