Treatment of Shoulder Pain for Sports Person (II)

Things to Ensure the Best Recovery

Step 2: Strengthening Your Rotator Cuff
Once you have completed the first step in order to ensure the best recovery of your shoulder pain, you may continue to strengthening your rotator cuff muscles.

Possibly you will experience some soreness in your shoulder.

The exercises are as follows:

Internal rotation

  • Provide yourself with an elastic band and attach it to something stable in the parallel side of your shoulder.
  • Place either your left or right elbow in your side and remember to make your lower arm facing forward.
  • Rotate your arm towards your stomach.
  • Continue from the beginning with the other hand.
  • Do 15 to 20 repetitions in 3 sets.

External rotation

  • Provide yourself with an elastic band and attach it to something stable in the opposite side of your shoulder.
  • Put either your right or left elbow and remember to make it rest on your stomach.
  • From this position, rotate your arms outwards.
  • Continue this exercise on the other side.
  • Do 15 to 20 repetitions in 3 sets.

Push up against the wall

  • Keep your distance from the wall about one meter away and put your hands against the wall.
  • Constantly your hand position in between the push up (far apart, close together, with one hand, above each other, etc.).
  • You can make the exercise either easier or harder by adjusting your distance from the wall.

Rowing

  • Provide yourself with an elastic band and attach it to something stable, i.e., door handle.
  • Hold each end of the elastic band with both hands.
  • Pull the band to your body and pull your elbows to the side of your body at the same time.
  • Hold for a few seconds and mildly let the elastic band back to the first position.
