Neck exercises are an important part of neck pain treatment program. You should do the exercises regularly to see improvements in these three areas:

  • Body posture
  • Work endurance
  • Athletic performance

A proper exercise must not hurt your neck or back while you perform it. If you feel pain, stop the exercise.

Exercise with Moist Heat or Hot Shower
Usually, hot shower or moist heat is needed only in the first three to four days of rehabilitation.

Exercise 1

  • Gently touch your chest with your chin
  • Then, raise your head back and see the ceiling
  • Keep your muscles relaxed and repeat 10–15 times in 1–3 sets

Exercise 2

  • Gently move your left ear to your left shoulder
  • Next, slowly move your right ear to your right shoulder
  • Try to touch your shoulders with your ears
  • Keep your muscles relaxed and repeat 10–15 times in 1–3 sets

Exercise 3

  • Gently move your head to your right
  • Then move your head to the left
  • You should try to turn your neck the maximum stretch. Remember to do it without pain
  • Keep your muscles relaxed and repeat 10–15 times in 1–3 sets

Exercise 4

  • Lift your shoulders upwards
  • Count from three to five while you hold your shoulders close to your ears
  • Keep your muscles relaxed and repeat 10–15 times in 1–3 sets

Exercise 5

  • Roll your shoulders forward. Perform it in circular movement
  • Keep your muscles relaxed and roll your shoulders backwards
  • Repeat 10–15 times in 1–3 sets
