Measles, Causes and Symptoms of Measles

Measles is also known as rubeola and is a contagious disease that causes infection in the respiratory system of a person. It is a dangerous disease which can be very fatal especially in young children. Though vaccinations are there which are very effective to prevent this disease, measles can spread from an infected person to other people who are in contact. If a normal person comes in contact with the saliva drops of an infected person, he/she can also get infected with this virus.

Measles is a very common infectious disease in todays time. Every year many children are affected with this problem. This infection spreads in the from of rashes, which first appears on the cheek and then eventually spreads to the palms, soles and trunk of the body. These rashes are initially pink in color and then become darker with time.

What Causes Measles- Measles can be caused by:

  • Living conditions that are very unhygienic
  • Infection by virus
  • An infected person coming in contact with others
  • Drops of sneezes and cough
  • Immunodeficiency, due to HIV/AIDS
  • Deficiency of vitamin A
  • Malnutrition
  • Unhealthy feeding habits

Symptoms of Measles- A few common symptoms are:

  • Cold
  • Fever
  • Diarrhea
  • Watering eyes
  • Cough
  • Running nose
  • Inflammation in the eyes
  • Loss of appetite
  • Sensitive to light
  • Small white spots found in the inner lining of the cheek and inside the mouth
  • Sneezing
  • Rashes on the skin that look like flat blotches
  • Sore throat in which there is swelling of the lymph nodes

Above are the symptoms of measles so if you notice these symptoms you need to get an immediate checkup. Take proper precautions to avoid the spreading of this disease to others as well.
