Genital herpes is a common sexually transmitted disease. It is characterized by blister formation, itching and pain in genital areas. It is caused by a virus called herpes simplex virus (HSV) that is of two types. Type 1 HSV causes infections of mouth and lips and is rarer infection. Here are few steps that help to prevent the genital herpes infection:

  • Avoid intercourse if either partner has infection in the genital areas
  • Use latex condoms during sexual contact
  • Talk to your doctor if you are infected or pregnant so that necessary steps can be taken to prevent the baby from getting infected

Home Remedies for Genital Herpes
The home remedies for genital herpes are:

  • Aloe vera is an effective remedy. It is applied on and inside the affected genital areas. It cools down the itching and redness.
  • Apply cold tea bags on the infected area every one hour. This is beneficial since the tea bags contain tannic acid that has antiviral property.
  • Application of ice packs reduces the pain, soothes the area and decreases the temperature at the site of infection. This inhibits the virus.
  • Damp a cotton ball and dip it in baking soda. Apply a coat on the infected area and leave the area to dry. This helps to relieve itching.
  • Take salt baths regularly. This will help to dry out the sores.
