Role Of Working Mothers In India
In India, the label of “working mothers” refers to those mothers who work outside of their homes in addition to their household jobs involving raising their children. There are various social factors as well as several economic factors which can affect working mothers in India.
- Marital responsibilities and family structure:
- The families where working mothers are married to the fathers of their children are most stable, as indicated by various surveys and statistics.
- Those who are single mothers or are engaged in a nontraditional relationship have been found to have difficulties maintaining family stability and job demands.
- Type of work:
- Well-educated females find their work more satisfying and worthy.
- Women with less education perform jobs which require spending more time on call outside of the office. This makes it difficult for them to leave the demands of their jobs even after reaching home.
- Income level:
Mothers who are working have more choices about childcare, transportation and housing due to their increased income level.
- Age of Mothers:
Most women in India who work beyond 40 years of age are found to suffer from job-related health problems.
Children of Working Mothers
- Only about 16 percent of children who have been found spending more than 30 hours a week at a day care setting have significantly higher levels of behavior problems. The children placed in better quality centers are found to have developed higher levels of language and social skills.
- The most important element in a child’s development is not the time he spends without parents. The quality of relationship and bonding is what matters.
