What are ENT Disorders?
There are several disorders of the ear, nose and throat that come under ENT disorders. In this article we are outlining the common disorders of ENT.
Disorders of Ear
Following is the list of the conditions that come under the pathology of ear:
Hearing loss: Discrepancy in hearing or deafness is called hearing loss. There are five types of hearing loss. Conductive hearing loss, Sensorineural hearing loss, Central hearing loss, Functional hearing loss and Mixed hearing loss.
Presbycusis: This is hearing loss due to aging.
Tinnitus: It is the condition in which the person experiences ringing, roaring, buzzing or clicking sound inside the head. It may be caused due to damage to nerve endings or stiffening of the bones in the inner ear.
Usher Syndrome: It is an inherited disorder that causes both hearing and vision impairment. It is a genetic disorder generally passed to children from their parents.

Disorders of Nose
Following are the disorders and conditions of nose:
Common Cold: This is the common disorder related to nose. This is probably the most common illness in general. Common cold makes one hard to breathe, sleep or sit comfortably. Unfortunatedly common cold does have any cure, it needs be endured.
Deviated Septum: Septum divides the nose into two chambers. Deviated septum occurs when the septum is severly shifted away from the middle line. This abnormal configuration may cause breathing problems and there may be excessive nasal discharge.
Rhinitis: Inflammation of the linings of the nose due to allergies is called rhinitis. Rhinitis causes excessive fluids in nose for which the symptom is runny nose.
Sinusitis: Inflammation of sinuses is known as sinusitis. It caused by viral infections or allergies. Together they can be called as rhinosinusitis.
Nasal polyps: Extra growth of soft tissues is known as polyps. In nose these polyps can grow on the lining of the nose and result in difficult breathing.
Nosebleeds: These can occur due to trauma in the nose.
Nose fractures or trauma.
Nasal cancers: Cancer in any part of the nose is called nasal cancer.
Disorders of Throat
Following are some of disorders related to throat:
Sore throat, also called as Pharyngitis: Pharyngitis is inflammation of the linings of throat.
Laryngitis: It is the inflammation of voice box or larynx. This makes one difficult to speak
Tonsillitis: Tonsil is the large, fleshy mass of tissue that lie on the lateral wall of the oral pharynx in the lateral wall of oral pharynx. Tonsillitis is the inflammation of tonsil.
Strep throat: It is infection in throat by strep bacteria.
Epiglottitis: Inflammation of the epiglotis is called epiglottitis. It is basically due to infection by virus.
Throat cancer: Includes laryngeal cancer, pharyngeal cancer, cancer of tonsils, cancer of epiglotis and other tissues in the throat.
Throat paralysis: Paralysis of the muscles of throat can result in dumpness.
