Lymph Node Cancer Symptoms

Lymph Node: The lymph node is a small bean-like gland located throughout the human body along the lymphatic system especially in neck, under the arms, and in the groin. Function of lymph node is to filter bacteria and toxins from the lymph fluid in the body. It is after this filtering the white blood cells destroy the toxins in the body. Each lymph node is important and plays an important part in immune system of the body.

Lymph Node Cancer is the condition when the tissues and the cells of the lymph nodes become malignant or cancerous. Cancer can develop in the lymph nodes in two ways: Primary and Secondary. Primary lymph node cancer starts in the lymph node or spreads to the lymph node from another lymph node. Secondary lymph node cancer is metastatic cancer that spreads from another part of the body.

Cancer that starts in the lymph nodes themselves is called lymphoma. Lymphomas are of two types: Hodgkin lymphoma and Non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

  1. I have stage 4 pancreatic cancer that has spread to my liver and has now increased in size 3 times– each time when we asked the oncologist about the nodes in the abdomin he would just say they were swollen. Now he admits that they have drastically increased in size and “could” be cancerous. Would this be secondary lymphoma? I am about to start taking sandostatin lar- a chemo shot that is given once a month. What types of chemo do you know that they give for lymphoma? just asking the names of some of the chemo drugs that have been used to treat this type of cancer. I realize that you are probably not a health care pro- or if you are, please forgive me. Right now, I have just been devastated and am trying to make sense of things
