Acid Reflux Causes
Acid reflux is also known as Gastroesophageal Acid Reflux (GERD), Gastro – oesophageal reflux disease (GORD), Gastric reflux disease. This disease is chronic and is normally caused due to mucosal damage produced by the abnormal reflux in the esophagus.
What Causes Acid Reflux:
Malfunctioning of the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) muscles is the cause of acid reflux. Lower esophageal muscles are the band of those muscles which are responsible for the closing and opening of the lower esophageal end and also maintain a pressure barrier against the contents of the stomach. It is a sensitive area having very smooth muscles and various hormones. If incase it loses its tone and weakens down then the process of completely closing down once food has entered into the stomach is hindered. As the result, acid of the stomach moves up into the esophagus; resulting in acid reflux.
Causes Of Acid Reflux:
There are various reasons for acid reflux. Some of them are:
- Caffeine drinks: If drinks having caffeine in them are taken in excess amount and many times in the day then it can result in acid reflux.
- Excess Of Chocolates: Intake of chocolates either directly or as one part must be taken care of. As excess of it will result in Acid reflux.
- Fried And Fatty Foods: If excess of amount of fried and fatty food is taken such as packed snacks, fried bakery items and excess of oil in home made items all can be the reasons for acid reflux. It is because these items slows down the process of digestion; thus keeping the food in the stomach for a longer time. It because this reason pressure is created on the stomach which in turn creates pressure on weak esophagus and results in acid reflux.
- Alcohol And Tobacco: Both Alcohol and tobacco are very injurious for health. Alcohol relaxes the lower esophageal sphincter and allows relux to move into in the esophagus. It also increases the amount of acid in the stomach. On the other tobacco and smoke of cigarette weakens the LES as they pass from the lugs into the blood.
